I had way too much fun making these monarch-inspired Valentine’s for my kiddo’s class, complete with packets of native wildflower seeds! Thinking of creative, outside-the-box ways to connect folks to ecology is my calling, I’m convinced. 🦋
This made me snort out loud. Who was in charge of the meat display?? 😅

Revisiting some caribou illustrations for the Fate of the Caribou Project today
(Also totally fangirling, didn’t think you’d actually reply 😬 but fr, we could make this happen!)
A few awesome options: Dr Anne Gunn, an absolute legend. Indigenous folks in Northwest Territories who are doing groundbreaking work combining traditional knowledge and on-the-land monitoring. Some awesome PhD candidates using new technologies like sound recording to study caribou. Shall I continue?
@ologies.bsky.social have you done a rangifology (caribou) episode yet? hmu and ill hook you up!
Just finished listening to the @ologies.bsky.social episode on fireflies while watching the fireflies start flashing in my yard while working on converting a chunk of lawn to native plants. It was magical and I will be calling them sparklebutts from now on.
More monarch caterpillars spied by my toddler! Maybe being so close to the ground helps him see them under milkweed leaves? @monarchjv.bsky.social We need to recruit more toddlers to the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project!
Parenting win: tonight my 2.5yo spied a tiny, TINY early instar monarch caterpillar that I completely missed when we were checking the milkweed patch. Kids are so cool.

From @wyo-migrations.bsky.social:
The USGS Alaska Science Center is offering a 2-year post-doc position co-hosted by UAF, working on projecting range shifts in the behavior and distributions of caribou in the Arctic. In-person or remote.
