Great article. I'd add: cut each episode budget in half, cut the unneeded special effects, and put out 20 episode seasons. TOS put out idea driven stories without all the fx costs. I'd rather have Enterprise level effects with a few longer arcs each season.

I'm tempted to hold out hope for a deluxe eventually....I have the first 3 volumes in that format. Decisions, decisions 🤔

I've been reading these in-between episodes and loving them. I'm half way through book 2 right now. It makes me wish they had 20+ episode seasons still and use these for larger arcs.

That's great, enjoy!! I just finished going back through Enterprise & although it starts a bit slow, I forgot just how good the last 2 seasons are. I'm onto TOS now.

I often find with friends who I agree on 90% of stuff, that the stuff we don't agree on leads to deeper conversations & more critical reading. Not to argue a point, but to tease out what really resonates w/us or doesn't.

I may try & give it a reread tomorrow if time allows.

Funny, I actually enjoyed King's story, but felt a different artist could have raised this to another level. I like normally like Evely. That said, I believe I read it digitally the first time. I've got the deluxe edition on my shelves & need to revisit it in physical copy.

Part of me also wonders about how changes in attention span over the past 25 years have affected things. It feels like there is so much that people want bite size things to consume and then move onto the next thing. Just something I've been thinking about lately.

Couldn't agree more & said the same to a friend today. I'd be perfectly fine with the special effects on par with Enterprise if we got longer seasons. It's the great storytelling & relationships that matter, but the CGI!

10 episode seasons means so much is surface level. Characters don't get to really develop, shows aren't given time to find their footing. How different would our thoughts on TNG or Enterprise be if they were only 46 episodes?

Well, at least I know I've been in good company! I wish I could say I've eradicated that behavior, but it's an ongoing struggle.... with novels & comics 😔

I wish my mind worked that way.... my mind wants to collect the entire series before starting book 1. It's a nasty completionist mindstate that I'm working to undue!
