Cities subsidizing rural areas is the micro of the blue states subsidizing red states macro.
Guy went to Princeton and Harvard.
So much winning.
From the WABAC machine this a.m., a reminder that in 1957 it was the U.S. that kickstarted Iran’s nuclear program with its client Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, whom it had restored to power in 1953 after ousting the democratically elected Mohammad Mosaddegh.

20+ years? How did the unintended consequences of U.S. regime change in Iran in 1953 work out?
The U.S. has not been in this much danger since the Civil War.
It will take the U.S. the rest of this century to clear the debris of this administration, and there’s no way of knowing if what is being lost won’t in fact be lost forever.
We’ve drenched ourselves in kerosene and lit the match.
🧵 Governors are promising lower power bills.
Here’s the only credible path to actually deliver them.
A thread ↓
Electricity bills are becoming the next major cost-of-living crisis.
Unlike groceries or housing, governors can’t blame markets b/c. utility rates are set through government bodies
Still more than a quarter of a million customers without power this morning in SE Mass.
Man…I’m really taken aback by the MLB affiliations.
I’m surprised. I thought they’d have to lock down the turbines because of the gale force winds.
NECEC is also delivering 1.1 GW currently.
Just another day at the office for @iso-ne.com apparently. And in case you were wondering, not a drop of oil being burned thus far.
Different story for the distribution cos.
Lately I’ve been going through MA gas utility Annual Returns 2009-2024 and their biennial Forecast and Supply Plans for the same period examining their actual vs. forecasted sendouts, and this OSOTD seems apt.
More to follow.
There is dignity in the work performed by folks who stock the shelves at Aldi, carry plywood at construction sites, and create content on YT, but there is nothing but degradation in the work performed by Hegseth.
Also, Mass. FTW!
And the 2024 election map…
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
In MA there are towns served by 1 util. for gas + electric; others where gas/electric are 2 unaffiliated utils. Possible solution an asset sale one util. to another so all towns are served by 1 util. for gas + electricity, & they then keep customers & migrate them gas—->electric in orderly fashion?
What is the minimum viable scale for gas distribution systems, and how is that measured to avoid disorderly collapse? Huge sums must be spent to maintain gas distribution systems, incl. the cost of gas to maintain system pressures, all for a dwindling no. of customers. How many customers is too few?
The only we have to be ashamed of is shame itself.
Isn’t their slogan “You get what you pay for?”
Don’t tell me…the eponymously named Hertz, right?
ICE’s notion of intentional community.
I am the owner of an anti-ICE account.
And once he does he’ll immediately fear that someone has a bigger one.
Suppliers find demand and if they don't find it they make it
What an interesting thread. France went all in on nuclear power plants, which are now being displaced by cheaper wind and solar. Ramping nuke plants up/down and turning them on/off puts unexpected wear and tear on pumps, valves, pipes, etc., raising maintenance costs and shortening equipment lives.
Good try my fellow Kennedy School alum, but we can all see, plain-as-day, that the true red hot center of hate America activism is the White House and Shallow State collaborators like you.
Anyway just bookmark this for the next time the Administration tries to shut town another offshore wind farm by saying that they're protecting whales
