29.05.2025 15:04 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0having narrow common reference points puts music on the level of film, sports, TV, politics and supports the social media-fueled discussion-based media industry
29.05.2025 14:33 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0and there’s still so much industry support across the board. I think there’s a huge piece (or book) to be written about how the music released in the late 60s and 70s became “standard.” I think it’s partly because it facilitates discussion, it’s hard to talk music when no two people hear same stuff
29.05.2025 14:31 — 👍 10 🔁 0 💬 3 📌 0It was both—transatlantic flights were very expensive, it was like half price, and my friend and I were just going to Europe for 2 months, didn’t care where. We lucked out and got Amsterdam. We stayed at his dad’s place in western mass, called airhitch daily, then took the bus to JFK
29.05.2025 12:35 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0In 1993 I flew to Europe via a company called Air Hitch. You called them on the phone and bought a pass and they would find you an empty seat within a one-week window. You didn’t know when you were leaving or where you were going, and it was $140 each way. Somehow, it worked

05.04.2025 17:05 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0One thought, and maybe I would have reblogged this back on tumblr in the day, is that the 2000s was the first time large amounts of US fans/writers could be in daily conversation with UK fans/writers, via boards and blogs, and this amplified and expanded the power of “indie”….
