So let’s paint a Kelpie!

While a fire horse would be more appropriate, I have a deeper connection to water and the sea. So, we painting a water horse.

The background’s very whimsy, dreamlike. Cause it’s not the focus.

Happy Birthday to Me!

We’ve survived another trip around the sun.
We’re still waiting on surgery.
We’ve put on weight again.

But we’re going to do better this year.

Many happy days and blessing to all.

Why a bunyip?

Her first drawing was a 10yr-olds attempt at the Australia cryptid. When I found it in 2018, I started reworking her.

More spikes.
Bigger tail.
Saber teeth.

I took bits and pieces of stories, added my own colour pallet, and came to her current design.

I don’t think I ever explained where Wom came from.

Wommera was a name gifted to me when I was 10. Our family was on a trip around Australia. On a tour with Aboriginal guides, they told me that was what my name translated to.

Since then, it stuck.

This morning, with the heat wave continuing, I decided to get in some more sketching. And to do that, I stole my Mum’s Orchid Phalaenopsis.

It’s been a long time since I’ve used this medium. Gouache is my go-to, now a days. But I want to branch out, and learn something a little more tricky.

I think the Bird of Paradise came out okay in the end.

Just a simple sketch today.

Mum and Dad were landscaping. So I decided to supervise with Loki. Sitting in the shade, I worked in my still life sketching.

Why are plants so much easier…most of the time?

Might watercolour it later.

Here we have the other half of my tattoo-esk spread.

I don’t have tattoos personally, but I’ve loved the idea of stories etched into us. It’s like a scar…okay, not like a scar. Scars can be painful…kinda like tattoos…

Okay, that didn’t come out wrong.

One final look at this piece before I put it aside and move on.

This was therapeutic for me. I wanted to get out something. And while I’m not completely happy with it, I am glad I gave it a go.

This one’s for the artists and art fans out there.

Feed Us Your Girls… this song, when @LydiatheBard released it last year, hit so hard. It made me sick, but had me coming back to it.

This piece has been floating around in my head for some time. Glad I can share it now.
