I decided to pick up Pocket Bear by @kaaauthor.bsky.social. I’m about half-way through it, but can someone please tell me why this book is giving me more anxiety than all the thriller and horror books I’ve read this year? I love it, but it is touching my inner child in a very real way. #kidlit

Guys, have you seen the news about Disney and Webtoon? What are your thoughts?

My goal: to tell stories that make kids feel the same wonder I felt discovering books, comics, and films growing up. Hoping to connect with others who care about stories that matter.
Books are blueprints for the imagination.
Remember: every time we read with a child, we hand them the tools to build their future.
What are YOU building with your words today?

Congrats!
Tree Hole Homes was such a fun book!
I dunno, guys. This is apparently a hot take, but I think people shouldn’t kill people, people shouldn’t be mean to people, people should love each other, and we should all try to make the world a better place.
Oh, and release the Epstein files.

Sometimes (or should I say “occasionally”) you can replace the dialogue tag to accomplish what you want. But it has to be RARELY done to be effective, and it usually only works for ironic contrast. Like:
“No,” he lied.
Comics. Movies. Games. Books. Which medium do you think has had the biggest cultural impact in the past 100 years — and why?
Every draft of your manuscript teaches you something new: sometimes you learn something about your story, sometimes you learn something about yourself, and sometimes you learn that you shouldn’t drink coffee after midnight.
Man, I’m on my third read of Wild Minds by Reid Mitenbuler and it is as fun of a read as ever. If you’re into animation history, love cartoons, or just like history, it is a wild ride.
Good insight all through! Thanks!
@bradguigar.com I would love to know if you think the concept of F-Shaped Reading (as described in this post) could inform comic artists making scrollable comics, and, if so, how? sketchplanations.com/f-shaped-rea...
I’m proposing a department of the federal government to fill the job vacancies created by the deportation of undocumented workers with all the federal employees recently fired. It will be called the “Department Of Replacing Key Staff.” Or DORKS for short. And, yes, I will be the leader of the DORKS.
Congrats to my buddy, @amedyckman.bsky.social for the WELL DESERVED Geisel award!!!!!!
Three topics of no significance that are also hills upon which I will die:
1. The correct order in which one should read the Narnia books.
2. The correct order in which one should view the Star Wars movies.
3. Which version of the Beatles “Let It Be” album should be considered prime.
Reading A Long Time Coming by Ray Anthony Shepard, and this stanza in Ona Judge’s story has me shook:

I tried to write a joke about the Word of the Day from @merriam-webster.com (“potpourri”) but it stunk.
I DID IT! I read 60 #books in 2024. Considering I have #ADHD, and considering the average American only reads 12 a year, I feel very proud of myself. StoryGraph compiled all the covers into a collage for me:
Great selection! I started The Enigma Girls and it is RIVETING.
Day 29: 31 Days, 31 Lists: 2024 Nonfiction Books for Older Readers. As with any list of longer titles, what you'll find here is more of a representative sample of the great older fiction of 2024 than what was actually the "best". Enjoy! #kidlit 📚👍 afuse8production.slj.com/2024/12/29/3...
Only my fellow ADHD heads will understand this. I am one book away from completing my goal of 60 books in 2024. So, of course, I am reading 3 books at once in hopes I can push 1 of them across the finish line in time. #ADHD #reading #books
The @merriam-webster.com Word of The Day is “urbane.” Which reminds me of my petition to rename the Martian-Webster Dictionary the “Urbane Dictionary.” Any signers?
