It's uncanny how systems produce shared experiential states

You are the middle of the human centipede.

You cannot change these things. You can only perform your role. If you refuse, you will be replaced, possibly by someone much worse. Or in the worst case scenario, everyone suffers because of your refusal. So all you can do is eat shit while shitting on others.

Your colleagues will hate you for it. They will respond as though you personally are responsible for these messages & policies, even though you are basically in the same position they are. You are told things from above to tell to them. These things are invariably bad and harmful.

The thing about academia that no one warns you about is that if you stay in it long enough, you will be given a role that is a poisoned chalice. You will have to perform this role without real power to change it. You will have to pass on continually changing messages & policies to your colleagues
