9/11 trutherism here. Wayfair and Pizzagate resurgences. Stolen elections. Vaccines causing autism…people who believe those theories instrumentalizing them in policy.

The mainstreaming and normalization of conspiracy theories has absolutely happened.

This is really complicated. The situation in the US drives the global vaccine market and the fact that currently HHS is run by anti-vaxxers means everything is very uncertain.

But I agree, Moderna Canada may have an opportunity to step up. We need to figure out how to make it happen.

Not the same issue, but yes, Vaccine has published many papers from that group. Those papers passed the same rigorous peer review process that the critical commentary did. We welcome commentary & post-pub review for all our papers.

I admit to being thrilled that Vaccine is publishing papers that are timely and relevant enough to make the news at Science.

I’m not talking about the made-up “Gold Standard” but the actual standard used by actual scientists: the strength of the evidence, as assessed by expert review. MAHA anti-vax pseudoscience cannot meet this standard. But every paper published in Vaccine must.

Vaccination is under ideological attack, particularly in the US. Vaccine and health disinformation is ubiquitous and overwhelming, both in the US and abroad. One way to fight back that we all already embrace as a professional community is with science done to the highest standard

Because we come from such broad backgrounds, often our opinions diverge or we lack consensus. We are scientists, so we are critical. We are human, so we are complex. But we are united by one thing: we follow the evidence where it leads, with the scientific method as our guide.

Vaccine serves the entire vaccine research community & covers everything vaccination, from basic science to policy to safety to $$$ to clinical trials. We are a diverse, global community & that is one of our strengths.

I will always be grateful for opportunities to emphasize the integrity of our editorial & peer review practices & to invite authors to submit their work—especially if it contributes to a larger scientific debate or has a major impact on our field, public health, or society.

Last November, the FDA’s top vaccine regulator forced FDA scientists to withdraw a paper because it showed that COVID vaccines work for all ages. Several papers published in Vaccine have been cited selectively by RFK Jr to mislead the public about vaccines. Now Vaccine is in the news again.
