Might talk later about how I go about editing both dialogue and song translations, so I can more easily articulate the differences between a 1:1 translation and one that's properly edited 🤔 Translation theory is insanely fascinating with how much goes into it

Yeah! Like, as someone who *knows* Japanese, I could read a bland translation and still inherently know what the actual nuance is just by listening along/adding nuance in my head. But someone who doesn't know the language *only* has the translation to work with. You're doing them a disservice

Anyway sorry for the rant, the state of the translation industry makes me extremely depressed and every time Ave Mujica gets something translated it bums me out. I'm sick of companies suddenly thinking editors don't matter when they're a backbone of allowing non-JP speaking fans to enjoy the work

I enjoy drafting translations, but that's truly only a small part of the work. The editing is just as valuable as turning the Japanese into English, but Ave Mujica work is just... so clearly not edited with the love and care it deserves... so I will keep spending months with my own editing...

I definitely take Ave Mujica translations too seriously, but it also matters a lot to me that everyone gets the same experience of their work that people who can speak Japanese do ☹️ Especially in an era of translation editors being removed from the industry, this matters more than ever

The lyrics are very poetical and metaphorical, they're supposed to spin images and entire worlds in your mind when you read them, and Ricochi takes so much care in every syllable she sings. idk I just wish the lines weren't translated as if nothing ever has a subject or meaning behind it

It just bums me out because Diggy has very intricate writing, and he gives Doloris a very clear character voice while she sings. Neither of these are ever reflected in official translations, let alone how much intimacy of Hatsune's writing is lost when you just remove all the nuance out of the lines

What is with official song translations and the overuse of "it"... the dialogue in the story was translated nicely so I was expecting a bit better for the song lyrics translation T__T Tired of reading ones that are extremely 1:1 and don't get the vibe across at all because of it sobs
