Congratulations, Professor Sykes! This sounds like such important work in underpinning the importance of remembering our ancient history and preserving its study!

Another coffee is in order, I think.
Reading The Mercian Chronicles is giving a classic example of The Tiffany Problem - something that seems out of place in history because itβs so βmodernβ (but is, in fact, ancient). Iβm reading a lot about Bishop Chad, and can only think of medieval memes.

February's book: The Mercian Chronicles: King Offa and the Birth of the Anglo-Saxon State, AD 630β918 by Max Adams
We teach about Roman Britain, but late antique Britain hardly ever comes up in classics, so I'm excited to explore this book and see what links we can make.
First thoughts on Friday.
A good book is a real joy. If we can claim it as CPD, that's all the better. To that end, I'm launching 'Ad Fontes' - an asynchronous bookclub here on Bluesky. Each month, I'll share a book I'm reading and then post weekly reflections on the knowledge as I work through.
First book details incoming!

Toen ik in Amsterdam woonde, was het @rijksmuseum.bsky.social mijn favoriete plek. Ik ben blij dat het Rijksmuseum aandacht besteedt aan Ovidius.
