Reading The Mercian Chronicles is giving a classic example of The Tiffany Problem - something that seems out of place in history because it’s so “modern“ (but is, in fact, ancient). I’m reading a lot about Bishop Chad, and can only think of medieval memes.

February's book: The Mercian Chronicles: King Offa and the Birth of the Anglo-Saxon State, AD 630–918 by Max Adams

We teach about Roman Britain, but late antique Britain hardly ever comes up in classics, so I'm excited to explore this book and see what links we can make.
