That said, the media landscape has changed in the decade-plus I've hung my cameras up nightly here. I've mourned losses past, but I've also been excited to see how we can innovate/pool resources to serve the region. Here's a list of some orgs doing that today: www.publicsource.org/pittsburgh-m...
🧵: The second time I moved here, I was only supposed to stay a week. Some 15 years later, I've been on staff at the Pittsburgh Trib, the Post-Gazette, and now @publicsource.org, where we regularly collaborate with a variety of publications locally, and when it makes sense, on a wider scale.
🧵: I've moved to Pittsburgh twice. Both times, I first found my social footing by haphazardly choosing from the events listings in the City Paper that I thought might attract interesting people. I read the left-behind editions of local publications in the Beehive, trying to learn my once new city.
“The funny thing about freight train hopping without a cellphone was that I rarely knew where I was.”
So it came as a surprise to Sarah Velázquez when she settled in Pittsburgh, years after spotting the city’s beauty from a passing train.
