Jess Hagemann's 2nd novel Mother-Eating. A black ink drawing of a demonic dragon woman with her arms outstretched, fingers tipped with sharp claws. She has horns, and sharp little teeth, and only the whites of her eyes are showing. The background is the red of '70s horror movie blood. The illustration is by James Hutton, and is based on a historical satirical cartoon of Marie Antoinette, the inspiration for the book's main character.

Not going to lie, this book is doing me psychic damage. I thought I'd tear through it but I'm having to go at it quite slowly. Perhaps the structure lends itself to this small mercy? Just to be clear: it's brilliant, but... oof.

I'm in the middle of saving for a move so anything to help offset the vet bill is appreciated 🫠

We moved up my move by half a month bc I'm struggling so much that it feels like nothing will ever get better and peewee not eating has fucking broken me
Finding out my parents completely cut me off straight into my soul cat dropping 5+ lbs
I can't

She's an extremely picky eater and WILL NOT eat wet food no matter how hard I try, she only wants kibble, but I managed to figure out a broth topper that has made her able to eat her nulo kibble if I take it out of her bowl and on a softer surface - so at least I've been able to get her to eat

My poor baby is so fucking hungry I'm so glad I figured out a way she can eat but I'm fucking heart broken watching her struggle

She's a big orange tabby the size of my torso and has dropped to 11lbs, weve already had one 600$ vet trip and we're back for another today (90$ exam, + whatever it will be to address her dental issue)
