Chat GPT is not your lawyer, your doctor, your librarian, your accountant, your therapist, your lover, nor your friend.

All of those roles require a level of complex judgement that a word calculator is not capable of.

Geertruydt Roghman’s mid-17th century engraving, where the child is holding a reel of yarn: Geertruydt Roghman, ‘Spinnende vrouw’. Rijksmuseum.

When did spinsters spin?

Amy Erickson has a handy blogpost explaining how the ubiquity of spinning wool and other textiles in medieval and early modern England related to the marital status meaning of 'spinster': www.campop.geog.cam.ac.uk/blog/2025/06...

Tribal communities risk losing local libraries and the history they hold amid DOGE cuts Federally recognized tribes say the Trump administration cut the grant money they use to sustain the local libraries that serve as anchors in their most rural communities.

More than a hundred libraries on federally recognized tribal lands across the country were notified that their congressionally appropriated grant had been terminated midcycle.

Those communities are at risk of losing their local libraries and the history they hold.

Link Love: Tariff-ying Future (*Featured image from Selvedge by Donovan Beeson on Patreon) Last week, Paper & Pencil (the Chicago-based stationery shop) posted about the new tariffs and how they have been directly affected. Because the tariffs are changing day-by-day, some vendors might receive a bill for astronomical fees one day and the next, the tariffs are on hold for 90 days. I fret for how this will effect small shops and small businesses.
