11.04.2025 02:44 β π 13 π 3 π¬ 2 π 1Itβs been a terribly difficult time for me, and Iβm quite scared- and sad- to go thru this, Iβm thankful for the community who rallied around me as soon as I got the diagnosis.
Iβve felt every emotion. This is extremely unfair, but biology never is.
I found the lump over Christmas, two weeks after my miscarriage. I had scans and a biopsy.
In the 3 weeks since being diagnosed, Iβve had close to 2 dozen appointments for surgery, fertility, reconstruction, and genetic testing.
I donβt have all the answers yet, but we think I caught it early.
Well, here goes everything: I have breast cancer.

a picture of 4 insect valentines cards, including the cards up front with the rosy maple moth and the praying mantis. The rosy maple says "Are you a lamp because I wanna be around you" and the mantis says "You look good enough to eat". The image is superimposed with the words "Love bugs valentines" and then on the bottom, Skype a Scientist's logo and Michele's Logo and "Sales support Skype a Scientist"
I think we can all agree the vibes are *not* wonderful.
You know what always makes my day better? Getting a cute card in the mail from a friend.
I propose that we send valentines this year for vibe enhancement. Skype a Scientist has got *just* the pack.

I wonβt respond to any arguments to this thread. My post is to highlight how miscarriage is awful enough without religious zealots inserting themselves into something they know nothing about. A national abortion can could kill me. It will be the fault of pro-lifers.
Mind your own fucking business.
If you donβt like abortions, donβt have them. If you think the problem is doctors misinterpreting the law and not that lawmakers have no medical knowledge, you are the problem. Access to medical care is private, and itβs a civil right. 14/n
30.01.2025 18:32 β π 47 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0Miscarriage is one of those weird underbellies of society. Itβs so common, yet rarely talked about. We canβt legislate medicine and then blame folks who experience the consequences of a problem -created by someone else -for not finding a solution. The solution is always access to care. 13/n
30.01.2025 18:31 β π 26 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Making doctors verify a patient is an exception to a rule wastes critical time that has resulted in trauma, permanent damage, and death of patients. Telling me Iβm the exception does no good if my doctor has to wait for confirmation that we wonβt go to jail if they save my life via surgery. 12/n
30.01.2025 18:29 β π 23 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Abortion bans criminalize pregnancy complications as much as they criminalize the right to choose. Unless you assume a patient is a criminal, and act accordingly, there really isnβt an easy way to know if someone is having a miscarriage, or has attempted to abort themselves. 11/n
30.01.2025 18:28 β π 32 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I wasnβt made to wait for care. I didnβt have to wait for sepsis, I wasnβt asked if Iβd taken anything to stop fetal development. Had this been the case, I could have become very ill. The simple point is that not legislating my body allowed me to help my body during a difficult time. 10/n
30.01.2025 18:26 β π 32 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0I donβt need to explain the trauma of this. A miscarriage alone is a profoundly awful experience, but mine felt especially horrible, if thatβs even possible. It was no oneβs fault. I had access to prompt medical care that didnβt require ruling out criminal activity. I was treated with respect. 9/n
30.01.2025 18:24 β π 31 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My doctor immediately scheduled me for a second D&C and confirmed via camera the surgery was successful (camera-led is not standard, this was not the result of poor care). Having retained products of conception is not common, but it happens. Why is this important info to share? 8/n
30.01.2025 18:22 β π 25 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I took the medication the next night. Misoprostol causes uterine contractions to expel pregnancy tissue. It sort of mimics early labor regardless of how far along you are. I had about 12 hours of contractions, but the medication did not work. 7/n
30.01.2025 18:21 β π 26 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I could wait to see if my body expelled it naturally, try the medication route, or repeat the D&C. The idea of a second surgery horrified me, and I was so overwhelmed with the trauma and decision paralysis that I decided to try the medication. I wish I hadnβt. 6/n
30.01.2025 18:18 β π 27 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Two weeks later, I knew something was wrong. I was having a lot of pelvic pain, I was still bleeding, so my doc brought me in for an ultrasound. I had retained pregnancy tissue, meaning some of it was still adhered to my uterus. Thatβs a problem. I had 3 options. 5/n
30.01.2025 18:17 β π 29 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Plus, because of my endometriosis, my doctor was concerned the medication route would be more painful than it already is. So, I had a D&C. I had a great medical team. I love my doctor. It was still horrible. Recovery time varies, but I bled a lot. 4/n
30.01.2025 18:15 β π 29 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The news was horrific, and it happened so fast. I chose surgery because after ~8 weeks gestation, medication to expel pregnancy tissue isnβt always 100% effective, and many women require surgery anyway. The medication-induced process can also be very long. I didnt want that. 3/n
30.01.2025 18:14 β π 27 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A missed miscarriage is when the fetus dies, but the body doesnβt realize it. You can carry a fetus that has stopped developing for MANY weeks before the body realizes and tries to expel it. As a result, I opted to have surgery to remove the tissue. 2/n
30.01.2025 18:10 β π 32 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Iβm a big fan of sharing experiences so others feel less alone. TW: pregnancy loss.
I had a missed miscarriage 2 months ago. I was 10 weeks pregnant. Iβd just seen feral heart activity 2 weeks prior, so the news that the fetal heart had stopped was a surprise, because I wasnβt bleeding. 1/n

30.01.2025 17:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I assume youβll simply call this medical negligence instead of what it is: doctors being forced to limit caring for patients until they can check off a legal list. These restrictions kill women. Itβs reduced women to breeding or dying. There is no justification, this is the outcome of your beliefs.
30.01.2025 17:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This young woman wanted her baby, but during her active miscarriage, the fetus still had a heartbeat, and by the time they confirmed sepsis had killed it and she could receive surgery, she died.
www.texastribune.org/2024/11/01/n...
State abortion bans across the United States literally say these procedures are not allowed unless the woman is in imminent danger. Thatβs dying, or almost dying. Really shitty odds at that point. And determining who was trying to abort βillegallyβ vs having a miscarriage is part of the problem.
