Yes that’s what it feels like!! The average person cannot afford these fees on top of copays and co insurance. It feels like they just want to cater to a wealthier clientele. It also seems to coincide with offering more luxury services at their office.

And there's been a surprising amount of doctors I've tried to see in the last few years that implemented an annual "administration fee" or "first appointment fee" that is not billed to insurance. I'm sure it's legal, but it feels extremely scummy, especially because insurance premiums are so high.
