A celebrated Philly illustrator died before he could finish his last project. Then his son stepped in. After years of not painting, Nicky Santore picked up his brush to paint the story of Pip, part beast, bird, insect, and crustacean. Just as his father would've wanted.

(I got to visit Charles Santore’s light-filled second floor studio on South 20th Street while an Atelier employee back in circa 2001. A friendly man willing to show some kids around his studio. Wish I remembered more of what he showed us).
