This is amazing.
When the government kills a crucial report, independent scientists decide to write it anyway and release it outside of government channels.
That’s science serving society, even when our political leaders don’t.
Hi #EarlyModern Bluesky - did you know that someone brilliant has built working printing presses using Lego and they are trying to get enough supporters so that Lego will release it as a kit?
They look so cool!

Day 11 of sticks & string: a better Better:
"I think the LLM is conscious" makes a lot more sense when you realize a lot of people don't grasp the interiority of other people.
If you view other people as a series of inputs and utilities, it makes a lot of sense that you would see inert code awaiting your prompt as conscious.
It took 12,000 years for us to give wolves anxiety, so I see this as a testament to the unrivaled creative power of the human imagination.
Team "The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet" here!
I wrote about the first national book banning bill, which effectively seeks to erase trans people. At the end I include a link to let your reps know that you oppose this bill and all it stands for. lithub.com/why-we-must-...
Day 10, quilt-piecing letters! There's a little voice in my head-- I think it's Arthur Dent-- saying "That's not better than *anything*!"
(there's potential for this style, I think, but it'll require a little more color planning...)
Day 9 (discontinuous... I didn't say *which* hundred days I was doing...) crocheting lichen, or something:
Day 8 back to playing with driftwood, now with crochet cotton which does not catch & shred when pulled through things:
Day 7 was plying:
I try to preach the opposite of imposter syndrome to creative people. Know that you are literally the only person on the planet equipped to tell the very specific stories you have to tell in the way only you can tell them.
With the US military spending $1 billion a day on a pedophile's whims, remember that the UN estimates that it costs about $93 billion to end world hunger.
The *first* 93 days of this decade+ war, could be spent ending world hunger, if anyone in power actually wanted to

I do not like this gen AI
I do not like what it implies
I do not want it in my art
I do not think it makes you smart
I do not want it in my games
I do not like its goals and aims
I do not want it in my books
I do not like the way it looks
I do not like it, I don't care
I do not want it anywhere
I would absolutely trust a kid to know who they are better than, say, the doctor who delivered them as an infant & hasn't seen them since... 🙄
I know that the people who need to read this aren’t here, but here goes:
Rules of engagement aren’t for the enemy. They’re for you. They’re for your soldiers when they’re captured or wounded. They’re for your civilians when they’re in range of the enemy. They’re for your allies, to reassure.
If you can provide $3k checks for the entire middle class of America by taxing 900 people a little more, not only should you do it, but you should take it as a signal that your monetary system is broken
Word of caution, my husband aged out of this around 40. (& the viral stuff can still screw you up if you're unlucky.)
Obviously this isn't everyone, so fingers crossed for you.
That would be hilarious! (is there anywhere that has good photos of the originals online? I've only really seen Bes in the square faience stylizations, & I love the personality on these.)

Spreading crushed silicate rocks like basalt on fields could remove up to 1.1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year while increasing crop yields.

Apologies, my friend,
but at a time such as this
I do not hope
that you are well,
rather, I hope
that you are angry
and worried,
rather, I hope
that you are saddened
and not numb,
at a time such as this
it would be strange
to hope
that you are well,
but I hope
that your pets are
Long live glorious sentences! May there be many more. 💚
if the US government logs these trees at the rate / quantity they're proposing, we'll lose one of the last old-growth forests. there's no coming back from that. if you have five minutes to leave a comment pushing back against the BLM, please do; there's a guide to that below.
Instead of this nonsense, fund actual research projects doing digital city reconstructions. Here is one I found useful when I was researching Mercutio: florenceasitwas.wlu.edu
