FACT OF THE DAY. 18 June 1815. An international army led by the Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon Bonaparte’s forces at the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium. The defeat marked the end of Napoleon’s reign and of French domination of Europe. Napoleon was banished to exile in Saint Helena.
