Glad to help organise this discussion on #Accessibility at #LabourPartyConference - a topic that deserves far more attention.
It's time to design for everyone and we need both business and UK Government to play their part

Head of Policy and Campaigns at RNIB. My views, not RNIB's. Change-making, policy and politics by day, trail running up and down hills by night

07.01.2025 11:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The image shows "Sophie" in text with a visual representation of the braille above, formed of dots, separated by a pink line. Below this there is a sentence reading "Remember - braille is read by touch, this is just a visual representation". In the lower right corner is the Braille 200 logo , with a visual representation of braille, and RNIB and European Blind Union logos.
200 years ago, Louis Braille invented the 6-dot tactile written code that would become known as braille.
It has empowered blind and partially sighted people to read, write, and access information for 200 years - and continues to do so.
Hereβs my first name as a visual representation of braille!
If changes were made, we believe it could increase the number of blind and partially sighted people who are able to enforce their rights using the Equality Act.
03.12.2024 16:55 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0We're delighted that last week the Ministry of Justice opened a Call for Evidence on Costs Protection for Discrimination Claims, running until 19 February 2025: www.gov.uk/government/c...
03.12.2024 16:55 β π 1 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0In the run up to the UK General Election, RNIB called on all parties to extend something called 'qualified one-way costs shifting' to apply to goods and services discrimination claims. This would be an important way to reduce the financial risk to the claimant.
03.12.2024 16:55 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0The Equality Act 2010 protects blind and partially sighted people from discrimination in the workplace and in access to goods and services, but there are gaps and barriers to people enforcing their rights, including the financial risk to a claimant if their case does not succeed.
03.12.2024 16:55 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Proud to have been part of intensive work over recent months to ensure that the experiences of blind and partially sighted people has been heard in the #UKCovidInquiry as it examined healthcare during the pandemic. Lessons must be learnt.

Well that went as well as I could have hoped, all the more exciting with wind, mud and rain...
Lovely volunteers and a brilliantly organised event from @canarytrails.bsky.social
A pink graphic with writing reading βFriday action!β outlined in white. Three cartoons underline the writing showing a to-do list, a mouse pointer and a megaphone.
