I loved the book but wasn‘t sure about whether I wanted to see the fim. Might see it now.

There‘s a blackbird singing, the first I hear this year, and the first afternoon to sit outside. Quite nice after a longish illness.

How come I only found out A.D. that I urgently need to travel to Spain, visit the Prado, and see Las Meninas.

Close-up portrait of a European goldfinch perched on a leafy branch against a dark, blurred background. The bird faces right, showing its vivid red face mask bordered by black and white markings, warm buff-brown body, and a bright yellow wing stripe edged with black. Fine feather detail is sharply visible, and the small green leaves beneath its feet add a fresh splash of colour.

Good morning. Sorry not around as much during this weekend. Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #PrimaryColours any bird with a primary colour in their plumage. The alt is #Songbirds good luck!

Painting by Gustave Courbet. Stormy sea. Greenish waves. Rocks. Cloudy sky

'Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout as you did in Rome. Do your worst, for I will do mine!'
-Alexandre Dumas

Every time I carve out a path that would lead my life into a better direction someone slams down a rock in the middle of my way and I don’t think I can take it any more.

„Portraiture is the art of living beings, of the live encounter between two people; the painting depicts the fact that they were both there in the same place at the same time, that they breathed the same air.“

Me too. My printer always has so many questions: are you sure you want to print this? Are you aware of the slim margin? Did you chose the correct format, paper, number of pages, color, flavor, whatever until I basically have to yell: JUST DO IT

Thank you. I‘ve only seen the original of this one (this is my photo of the painting, which is exhibited in Lenbachhaus, Munich). The one with the four horses which the lyrical self refers to, to my knowledge is located in Minneapolis.

B&w photo of Parveen Shakir PP (the Presidential Pride of Performance award bestowed by Pakistan for her literary achievements) A well known image from Pakistan's 1970s truck art. It depicts film actors Ejaz and Firdous in a scene based on a romantic tale from folklore

"This melting evening of ours
Where everything dissolves
The scent of your clothes
The blossoming sprouts of my dreams...We ought to have met, in another time, in pursuit of attainable dreams"

„I step into the painting of the 4 blue horses.
I am not even surprised that I can do this.
One of the horses walks toward me.
His blue nose noses me lightly. I put my arm over his blue mane, not holding on, just commingling.
He allows me my pleasure.“

“‘What is it called?‘ Newton said. ‘The painting.'
Newton should know that: the picture was famous enough.
'It's called The Fall of Icarus. That's Icarus in the water.'“

Bit late for #aBirdFromTheLord day3
My heart is heavy with some disturbing news I got last week.
Also this winter is harsh & long.
Went outside early & heard the Great Tits make their familiar sound, hopeful that spring is round the bent. Two little fellows reminded me to bring out more food.

Illustration of a train at night in a book by George Cupples, 1882.
Crescent moon, starry night, clouds, rolling fields, trees, steam train.

‘This is the night mail crossing the Border,
Bringing the cheque and the postal order,
Letters for the rich, letters for the poor,
The shop at the corner, the girl next door,’~ Auden, Night Mail.
This #BookWormSat coincides with Auden’s birthday so we will mark the day with C20th poetry. Join us!
