Hello! I'm so glad to hear your interest, Endeavor is a Universal TTRPG, that's basically about playing big damn heroes in otherwise gritty settings. The PC's have heroic traits which grant them great abilities, but it's a fairly comprehensive, dangerous game which rewards careful planning.

Thanks for giving my game a look! I've run a good deal of fantasy with it and it works well. I absolutely adore Torchbearer, but do keep in mind that it is ENTIRELY centered around dungeon crawling and is very structured: though for my money that's why it's the best dungeon crawling game

I can confidently say that my system Endeavor can very much do this: especially if you are seeking a grittier fantasy as suggested by wanting it to feel like an old school rpg.

I would suggest are Torchbearer if you want to focus on dungeon crawling, or burning wheel for more character-driven.

Endeavor Update #9: New Perks!

Several new perks have been added to the game, especially for skill groups with less than most. The four new perks shown below are four among several others, granting more character creation options than ever!

Endeavor Update #8: New Equipment

Many new weapons have been added, especially in the futuristic category! Rules for armor exoskeletons have been added as well, and the number of effects for magical items has been greatly increased!

Endeavor Update #7: Expanded Optional Rules

The expansion is bringing a plethora of additional optional rules, such as morale rolls, more realistic XP, Advanced travel rules, mentoring, more common magic, progressive stat benefits, and an alternate HP system.

Endeavor Update #6: Conflict Actions

Several combat actions, particularly maneuvering and grappling, have been reworked, and the actions suppress and guard have been added. Investigation actions have been greatly expanded, adding 6 new actions between both sides!

Been here many times. I'm on a kick right now but sometimes it feels like you just can't do anything but stare at the page.

What helps me sometimes is to just write literally anything, inspired or not, and then you'll get the urge to go back to improve it once you see the results

Been testing a new game I'm writing and the first party of this system is peak comedy

They bounce off each other like turbocharged rubber bouncy balls and the results are excellent

In Torchbearer, the result of defeat depends on the type of conflict it is.

In a Drive-Off conflict, your goal is to get the other party to flee, while in a Kill conflict, your goal is to kill your opponent. Both sides must adhere to this, so attempting to kill puts you in more danger too

Endeavor Update #5: Reworked and expanded Mental Conflicts

Mental conflicts with multiple characters tended to be overly long and exhausted an inordinate amount of effort, so the round system for mental conflicts was reworked. Now they run fast regardless of numbers!

Endeavor Update #4: Boss Extras

A common issue was wanting to add a boss character to an encounter but not wanting to prep an Elite. Now added is the Boss Extra, an upgraded Extra that tracks effort (thus preventing untiring bosses) while being convenient to use in play!

Endeavor Update #3: Creature Creation

New in the update is dedicated rules for creating non-playable creatures. Shown here are the general rules and the first half of the creature traits, which are used for creatures in addition to the racial traits (which are also expanded!)

God I feel this. A majority of the reason making my game took so long is that I had to scrap and redo mechanics I really liked but realized were absolute garbage as I learned more about game design

The best GMs know how to set players up to pop out those pearls, and the best systems use their mechanics to make those pearls really shine. I try my best at doing both, as we all do hopefully, but it's just a natural flow that happens when people are having fun and invested in the game

I'm a huge Dragon Quest Fan but 9 is one I haven't played yet (started with the 5 DS remake). Hope one day to see what makes it so special for so many

This is cool as hell! The guy standing watching really adds a cool sense of scale.

A friend picked this up to run and I was excited, unfortunately never got off the ground. As a big Battletech fan, the fact that it draws from the same inspirations (Dougram) really makes it appealing to me.

These are only a few expansions, others such as Magical and transformation have also been reworked and expanded!

Endeavor Update #2: Heroic Traits

In the new expansion, several heroic traits have been reworked or expanded. True Scholar now has a much more dynamic and fun effect, Paragon has been reworked for clarity and power, while Dead and Psychic have all-new power options!

I think there's a give and take. The advantage of goal XP is that roleplay is rewarded: you get benefit from doing what your character would do. However, it means that game state can screw you out of progression. I think it's best in games where PC's are more independent and not always together

It doesn't bother me much because my group very much leans I to the acting side of TTRPG's and so we split the party often to do character scenes. That said, in a DnD setting Its a problem. The key is limiting rogues to party-related activities or give the rest of the party simultaneous challenges

My friend ran a Halo game using my system a while back, ans one of the players was just straight up Rookie from Halo 3: ODST. So he was totally silent and communicated through sign language. Silent characters can be fantastic when you know how to express in other ways!

Hello all, I've been working on an update for Endeavor this past while. It started as a patch to fix an error, but once I got in the spirit I've been adding more content as well. The updated digital version will be freely distributed to all owners, more updates to come!
