Dr. Fernández is Prof. of Medicine in UCSF's Div. of General Internal Medicine; a general internist at ZSFG; Associate Dean of Population Health & Health Equity for UCSF School of Medicine; UCSF Latinx Center of Excellence Director, & Director of the Latinx & Immigrant Health Research Program @ARC.

The lecture series is in memory of Reza Gandjei, a UCSF medicine resident in the 1990s who passed away soon after training. Reza was a Marshall and Rhodes Scholar with a passion for healthcare ethics and policy.

Dr. Fernandez' research expertise includes language & literacy barriers in healthcare, Latinx health, immigrant health, health care equity in chronic disease, particularly diabetes, & racism in medicine. She serves on the National Academy of Medicine & the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.

Dr. Alicia Fernandez delivered the 27th Annual Reza Gandjei Lecture! ARC Core Faculty and Executive Committee member Alicia Fernandez, MD, discussed social drivers of health screening, as well as strategies for reducing health disparities, including via systems-level & community-based approaches.

Dr. Nguyen is principal investigator of the Silicon Valley Guaranteed Income Project, a randomized controlled trial assessing the effectiveness of cash assistance on improving housing stability & health among 300 homeless Bay Area families.
