These six are the bread and butter of the next three weeks.

I’ve had a while so have tried to get a head start but am generally just trying to stay a bit ahead of class (80 minute lectures twice a week). But with my daughter this often involves finding auditions or pdf voice alouds with Google Docs notes which integrate into slides when I have a chance.

I’m doing course prep these days (Hobbes, Rousseau, Mill, Burke, Mussolini) but have also finished two more very short introductions: to abolitionism and to racism.

What are we all reading this week?

Ha I meant the book - I don’t think people sufficiently engage with the issue in question.

I’ve finished three more very short introductions (Socialism, The American Judicial System, and Global Islam) and have been doing some course prep (Hobbes, Rousseau, Mill, Burke). Have also started Geuss’ Not Thinking Like a Liberal.

I know I know it's a well worn point but still. Plenty of people who would self-describe as Christians, for whom that is a very important identity, watch Fox News. I genuinely can think of very few messages as laser-targeted to be anti-Christian as "kill the homeless". Designed in a lab by Satan.

I’ve finished Andrew Clapham’s Very Short Introduction to Human Rights (2nd edition) and James C Scott’s The Weapons of the Weak. Have also browsed Hobsbawm’s Nations and Nationalism since 1780.

I’ve finished Carl Rogers’ On Becoming a Person and Dipesh Chakrabarty’s Provincializing Europe (which I only browsed).

I’ve gotten off the very short introduction train and have finished Satchananda’s The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Polanyi’s The Great Transformation.

For sure - he’s been quite politically committed the whole tim: his dissertation is published, I’ve read some of it.

I like his work a lot. Am sort of ambivalent about his politics but he’s got the chops for both for sure! His book on the communist manifesto is quite engaging too.

Ha yes I don’t include those - but we are finally getting to some real books: Narnia and “Alice in Underland”.

Also Kautilya but I’ve just been browsing that.

Longest thing I’ve been reading in print is Coetzee’s Provincial Life trilogy but I’ve been on that forever (need to pick up at book 3).

Not just now - started the VSIs to prep for a course I’m teaching in the fall and sort of just kept going. What I need to do now is finish the course prep…hard to do while watching the little one all day!
