Field Service Postcards with Christmas greetings added: this was forbidden, as soldiers were expected to cross out the phrases that didnβt apply to them, before signing and dating the card.
First World War Christmas, number 2: Field Service Postcard greetings. These βpro-formaβ cards were given to soldiers to reassure people at home that they were ok. It was forbidden to write any greetings on the cards; these soldiers chose to ignore this in sending on their Christmas greetings.

First World War Christmas, number 3: βFor Mother, Xmas 1914β. A simple gift of a patriotic handkerchief and hand sewn pouch in equally patriotic colours. We may never know who crafted this innocent and touching gift, and whether they envisaged there would be three more wartime Christmases to come.
