The truth is that the hostages could have been home a long time ago. The catastrophe in Gaza could have been stopped. Instead, the horror is being purposefully, cruelly dragged out by the extremists in power, and we all just got a terrible reminder. (4/5)

Not only are they the victims of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad which hold them hostage, they are victims of the Israeli government, which has, time after time, collapsed deals and negotiations that could have freed them. (3/5)

In one of them Rom could be seen crying, while in the other Evyatar was filmed “digging his own grave.” The reality of their condition is utterly heartbreaking. (2/5)

This means ending the occupation. Ending the construction and expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Ending Israel’s decades-long system of domination over Palestinians who are not afforded the most basic civil rights. (9/9)

Condemnation is not enough. Sanctions of settlers and settler organizations are not enough. Prosecution of individual settlers who carry out attacks is not enough. The only way to stop this machine of brutality and destruction is to attack it at its roots. (8/9)

These cases are not bugs in the system. Settler violence directly aids Israel’s policy of Jewish supremacy and land theft by killing Palestinians, destroying Palestinian infrastructure, and forcibly displacing communities from their lands. (7/9)

The outcome of these horrific cases is always the same — Israeli authorities take the side of the settlers, and the Palestinians grieving their loved ones are arrested, detained, and face even more violence at the hands of soldiers and settlers. (6/9)

Israeli authorities are sending Palestinians in Masafer Yatta a clear message – not only do they have no right to *live* on their lands – they have no right to a die with dignity either. (5/9)

The military notified Hathaleen’s family that they will not release his body until they agree not to bury him inside the village – extending their existing total ban on Palestinian construction in the area to gravestones too. (4/9)

Fourteen Palestinian residents have been arrested since the murder. The Israeli military has ordered residents to dismantle the mourning tent they had erected, and soldiers used tear gas and stun grenades to expel friends, activists, and journalists who came to visit. (3/9)

After Hathaleen’s murder his suspected killer, well-known violent settler Yinon Levi, remained on the scene and pointed out Palestinians for arrest – while admitting that he was happy about the murder. He was later arrested, but released to house arrest shortly after. (2/9)

Beloved Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen was murdered two days ago by an Israeli settler – but this is not a story of one crazy extremist; it is a story of state-backed settler terrorism that is integral part of Israel’s system of domination in the occupied West Bank. (1/9)

HAPPENING NOW: As our government continues the starvation, killing, and destruction in Gaza, we’re disturbing the peace. We can’t have business as usual as horrors happen just over the fence!

Settler violence is part of the infrastructure of the state – supported by the government and accepted by the army – and this terror is commonplace across the West Bank. What happened last night isn’t random, it’s state policy. (3/3)

But he didn’t need to be any of these titles for his life to be precious and for this to completely horrify all of us. (2/3)

Awdah, who was shot and killed by settler Yinon Levi last night, was a respected father, community leader, and activist in his village Umm al-Kheir. He brought many people there to teach on the reality of settler violence, and his horrific killing is such a hard blow. (1/3)
