Then our CFO treated me with utter disdain and was dismissive of my concerns. And that has deeply eroded my love of my work.

It will take time to rebuild that trust.

So, I have an idea for an RPG setting/game. Do I create a bespoke system for it (more work, but will reinforce the themes/tropes of the game)?

Or do I use an existing system and hack it and stretch the setting over the top (less work, but not as good)?

Thing is, it is not a sophisticated industry. It’s basically packaging and publishing - on the business side, and that means the margins are already tight and economy of scale is hard.
