I’ve stuck with it a bit more and this is a rollercoaster of a game where I just wish there was 5-20% less friction the whole time, I’m having a ton of fun except when I’m annoyed or bored by the difficulty.

The big club guy in red armor who’s this game’s version of the club guy guarding a grub you meet 20-60 minutes into Hollow Knight. Not even a named boss, just a nasty early skill check cuz he hits for 2 and has a lot of HP.

yeah that's not the part that's fucking me up, it's the short distance of the attack giving way to a zero iframes collision if you misjudge the distance, though I guess it would be easier to bounce on this guy's head up and down if I could read his jump cleanly.

The thing where you take 2 points of contact damage when you misjudge the distance of your down+attack dive kick's attack range is so punishing, just feels bad to play at that point. Maybe if I could get hit three times without dying instead of 2 everything would be fine.

yes, exactly, no one thing is too much, it's just that everything has been over tuned. Even in the opening game has everything take three hits, there's no real popcorn enemies. I'm two hours in and just tired of playing.

So many ways they can tune this to make it 10x more enjoyable, I’m probably going to put it aside for a while and let them figure it out. Worst feeling mechanic is the dive attack range being so short that I keep taking two points of contact damage because I was off on the range by millimeters.

I don’t care if this makes me bad at games (I’m not) or whatever but while Hollow Knight is a 10/10 masterpiece and Silksong as currently balanced is a genuinely terrible experience because it seems to assume I’d want every other enemy to be a bone wheel skeleton and every single boss a skill check
