My poem β€œThe Long Shot” was reproduced in bonze and set in a park in downtown Las Vegas.

One was a tile & marble contractor (as was his father); the other owned a small farm and drilled wells. And here I am, writing poems.

A man asked me last night what publishing needs to do for literary fiction to begin appealing to men again. I said, as nicely as I could, that, with over 2,000 books published every Tuesday, of which many would appeal to men, it’s not a publishing problem, it’s a men problem.

Nice, but it’s no Ewan McTeagle.

Yes. I'm seeking it out now as well... I'm glad you did an expanded version for The Zombies, one of my favorites as well. I'd long wondered why they weren't a bigger band.

Speaking Through a Mask: Persona & Dramatic Monologue β€” Brooklyn Poets In this five-week, generative online workshop with Gregory Crosby, we’ll explore the different ways a wide range of poets have used persona and dramatic monologue in their work.

I’m once again leading on online workshop for Brooklyn Poets, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Vaguely annoyed I’m not at AWP, esp. since it’s in train distance of NYC, but I have no reason to be there: no new book, no panel. It would be fun to walk around the bookfair and see distant friends, but I can’t justify the expense. So it goes.

[From Wikipedia] Catbus (Japanese: ねこバス, Hepburn: Nekobasu) is a fictional character in the Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is a large, grinning, twelve-legged cat with a large bushy tail and a hollow body that serves as a bus, with windows and seats covered with fur.

Here we see Catbus with a manic expression on their face as they zoom out of the sky and across the landscape leaving behind a Catbus-colored (tan and brown striped) streaking trail of jagged letters reading β€˜Maybe it will happen today’.

MONOPOLY

Finally the day came when a monopoly owned everything in the world
So it went looking for its stockholders to celebrate
But they were all owned by it they were all dead they were someplace
Their photographs hung in elevators which went up and down up and down carrying nobody
Everyone else was in bed doing the exercises to get in shape for noon
Hey the monopoly said lets uncork the Empire State Building and get blotto
Silence
The monopoly scowled
All it wanted was a little good-fellowship, like you get in the highrise apartment-buildings
Then the sky got awful dark
Gee
And everyone was in bed frantically doing those exercises that prepare us for death
Exercises known as β€œfucking” β€œkissing” β€œcaressing”
Everyone was unaware that they had been bought
Or that the earth was about to sell them to the moon
For a little light

The world needs to go the way of Denmark and besides that, there are some people working on an app which will tell you if some creep nearby is wearing these glasses - which are just another way to film without consent, infringe our privacy and victimise women.

NIGHTGOWN

A cold so keen,
My speech unfurls tonight
As from the chattering teeth
Of a sewing machine.

Whom words appear to warm,
Dear heart, wear mine. Come forth
Wound in their flimsy white
And give it form.

Hold American history up to the light; at a certain angle, Trumpism seems utterly absurd, nearly impossible. Adjust your wrist by a millimeter, and it appears the obvious, inescapable culmination of all that America is. It’s hard to live with this.

🎢Seen the arrow on the doorpost
Saying, β€œThis land is condemned
All the way from New Orleans
To new Jerusalem”
I traveled through East Texas
Where many martyrs fell
And I can tell you one thing
Nobody can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell🎢

Hold! You crafty ones, strangers to work, and pilferers of other men's brains! Think not rashly to lay your thievish hands upon my works. Beware! Know you not that I have a grant from the most glorious Emperor Maximilian that not one throughout the imperial dominion shall be allowed to print or sell fictitious imitations of these engravings? Listen! And bear in mind that if you do so, through spite or through covetousness, not only will your goods be confiscated, but your bodies also placed in mortal danger.
