Lorde’s ‘Green Light’ Is the Soundtrack of Youth Playwright Kimberly Belflower shares what the Melodrama single can teach us about the ferocity and magic of teenage girls.

A powerful and anti-formulaic mentor text that I’ll include in my Lit Analysis Explosion unit this year!

The final line, “You are Spring” truly juxtaposes the title itself. Not only is “Spring,” signifying rebirth, antithetical to Death, but Spring is part of the cycle of seasons. It comes every year while Death is final. Theme: not only can you start anew & find hope, you can do this again and again.
