Die Studieleitung liegt bei Susanne Vogel von der MSH.

Es ist eine groß angelegte Replikationsstudie eines Effekts, der bei Studierenden in den USA nachgewiesen wurde. Initiiert ist der Replikationsversuch vom Center for Open Science. Noch können wir den Effekt nicht genauer beschreiben, um die Ergebnisse nicht zu verfälschen - in 2026 wissen wir mehr.

🔎 Wir suchen aktuelle Studierende aus Deutschland, Österreich oder der deutschsprachigen Schweiz, die ihren Emotionen zum Klimawandel in unserer kurzen Online Studie Ausdruck verleihen möchten.

This week I travelled from Berlin to Budapest by train to attend the #SIPS2025🚆 Instead of flying, I chose a low-emission alternative - the whole trip by train caused only about 10 kilograms of CO₂, compared to approx. 190 kilograms by plane. That’s just 5% of the emissions! 🌍

We (@lisawarner.bsky.social @ajamesgreen.bsky.social and myself) estimated the carbon footprint of air travel associated with >20 international conferences (2023–2025) in psychology & behavioral medicine.

To compare global warming with that in Germany, I first shrank the global stripes in the y-axis and then placed the data from Germany behind them.
The result: warming is happening twice as fast in Germany.

...and it's even 1.9 degrees I found out later 🤒

Still, I would argue for a sensible use of AI and not for playing around with it for hours (eg, fabricating pics of little plastic figures of oneself as it seems to be trendy right now 😅)

If numbers are compared, it's well below 5% emissions for an online conference attendance as compared to flying anywhere...

Faced similar rumours when I found out how large the carbon footprint of flying to conferences is, here I often heard the counter argument "but virtual meetings emit a lot as well".

Yes, definitely a lot of rumours going around on AI energy use, so I actually craved an article with estimates and comparisons!
