It was one of the things that I loved about my job as a newspaper photographer, scenes like this. When I saw this man cutting the grass with a second cane tucked in his back pocket, I knew I had to stop and take his picture.

I don't recall a lot about this photo except that I was driving around looking for interesting human interest photos for the Kelowna Daily Courier newspaper and spotted this fellow cutting the grass in front of his home along Ethel Street in Kelowna, B.C.Canada. It was taken sometime between 1983 and 1989. I used Ilford HP5 film in my Nikon film camera, probably with my 105mm lens.

At one time it would have been a pretty majestic tree. It still has much character even charm with its twisted a downturned limbs.
