I'm skeptical of Platner for slightly different reasons, but I think a lot of people see themselves in him. A once non-ideological, relatively politically ignorant person who has steadily gravitated to far left politics. Many people think differently from 10 years ago.
They are good for writing emails you don't care about. Which is honestly a pretty useful tool for most people. The image (and especially video) gen stuff is mostly worthless for regular people.
