A great way to start a walk π
07.08.2025 20:57 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No treats from Mathildeβs? That would have saved the day π
06.08.2025 20:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A great walk along Ullswater today. Out from Glenridding on the first steamer this morning and back on foot π
06.08.2025 19:53 β π 20 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I havenβt got Adamβs book, but soon will have π
03.08.2025 11:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, he might not find it like that nowβ¦
03.08.2025 11:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks Adam, Iβm going to have to check out your Cumbria book π
03.08.2025 11:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you Gina, Iβm very pleased to hear that π
03.08.2025 11:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes, itβs not as big as Swinside, but nicely positioned overlooking Bardsea and Morecambe Bay π
03.08.2025 11:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Most definitely. Not least because it is always so quiet there.
03.08.2025 07:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And I would agree.
03.08.2025 07:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not quite Pete, wrong end of the Lakeβs. Itβs Coniston Old Man, from behind. π
03.08.2025 07:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A walk up to Swinside stone circle this afternoon, or Sunkenkirk as it is also known. One of the less visited stone circles in Cumbria. With its 57 stones and dating back some 5-6 thousand years, itβs definitely worth a look. @ancientstones.bsky.social
02.08.2025 17:37 β π 113 π 10 π¬ 4 π 0Another new sign in the Tilberthwaite valley π #fingerpostfriday
01.08.2025 06:54 β π 25 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0October? Your last walk up Wansfell? Or maybe your next?
30.07.2025 21:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Difficult accessing Wansfell today. At the first stile we waited ages for the lift that never came. At the second one we were in a queue for the stile, behinds some very indecisive occupants of the fells. @lakesstiles.bsky.social
30.07.2025 19:31 β π 25 π 1 π¬ 4 π 1Thank you and no, thatβs Lane Head, the former home of WG Collingwood who was Ruskinβs secretary. Brantwood was a little to my right, about a mile from Lane Head. π

28.07.2025 20:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In Town Field. Probably planted as a marker when this field was used for strip farming and all the farms in the village (when there was a lot) had a strip of land here.
28.07.2025 20:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A majestic mountain, without a doubt.
28.07.2025 20:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A bit of late evening sunshine in Coniston this evening.
28.07.2025 20:22 β π 27 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Herdwicks from Coniston Hall, showing off their new summer look π
28.07.2025 20:20 β π 25 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Apparently the mountain (Doldernhorn) is in great danger of falling into the lake, it is moving significantly. If it happens, the subsequent debris flow is expected to severely damage Kandersteg. It would be heart breaking, but the locals are prepared for evacuation.
26.07.2025 19:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Tarn Hows at its best in the early morning. No one around, silent, peaceful.
26.07.2025 18:02 β π 40 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Lovely light and colour Andrew π
26.07.2025 18:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Did you go to Oeschinensee when you were in Switzerland? This is my all time favourite place. Some fabulous walks above there too.
26.07.2025 17:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The beautiful canopy of a beech tree in the woods near Tarn Hows this morning.
26.07.2025 11:16 β π 16 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The church of St Michael and All Angels in Hawkshead today. Parts of the church date back to around 1300, but most of the building is 16th &17th century.
22.07.2025 20:42 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0There were a lot of peacocks here yesterday too π
22.07.2025 20:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Some of the quarries around here that were once full of noise and industry are now peaceful and beautiful places as well as havens for wildlife.
21.07.2025 20:17 β π 19 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A good number of butterflies around today. Numbers are definitely up on last year. I saw six different species around Coniston today.
