Here's a fun piece of code I wrote to visualize the astrometric orbital elements. To run the visualization for yourself, check it out here: github.com/sblunt/show-...

Black dashed is the line of nodes, and lighter purple indicates the part of the orbit that is behind the plane of the sky. Enjoy!

Definitely agree! I took an intro cs course in undergrad where Racket was the first language we learned. Although I never use Racket, I think it was extremely valuable to learn that way! Learning to code should be about learning how computers parse, compile, and execute code first.

Heading into Christmas Day with 39/50 stars on #AdventOfCode! Will I finish? Absolutely! I learned a ton so far (mostly about path finding algorithms after rage quitting day 16).

There’s a lot I don’t know, but there’s nothing I can’t learn. :D

a demon with horns is surrounded by a group of people in a dark room . Alt: A huge horned demon, humanoid but with fiery wings. It roars, revealing an internal inferno. It seems very strong but “insanely buff” was not my first thought.

Showed the kids Fellowship of the Ring, and the next day, kid the older was describing the Balrog to his cousin:

Kid: imagine me, tall as the hills, in fire, and insanely buff

Cousin: that’s a lot to imagine

Prompted by this and a need for distraction I Did Some Math. Turns out most extrasolar planets are quite cauliflower-compatible. A thread, with citations. And laboratory astrophysics. And footnotes.
