Just learned about the passing of one of my all-time favorite message boarders, the great Moon Man. He apparently passed over the last few months.

Smart, quick the barb, kind of heart, and one of the funniest motherfuckers around. A true treasure, gone way too soon.

RIP, good sir.

Opinion | My Bosses Were Afraid of Crossing Trump. So, I Quit. A veteran journalist opens up on the censorship that he says led to his resignation.

Alan Greenblatt walked away from his position as editor of Governing last week because his bosses kept telling him to spike stories that were critical of Trump.
On Tuesday, Oct. 28th, I will be interviewing him on this subject at a Substack Live Video. Join in at 1PM MT / 3PM ET that day!

For all those #APSA people on planes...Does someone have a scatter plot that shows the economy (e.g., GDP or change in real disposable income) and presidential vote share that includes the 2024 election? [Needed for a teaching slide]

Targus Clickers seem to have about a 5-year life span (I think I lost the first one). Originally recommended by @carnes.bsky.social in Grad School. New one arrives tomorrow.

Three big takeaways from that β€œOne Big Beautiful Bill.β€œ Republican tactics seem likely to weaken the Senate – and make fiscal crisis more likely.

Senate GOP tactics to make 2017 tax cuts "permanent" required nuclear move on Senate floor-- weakening authority of the parliamentarian, blowing hole in Byrd Rule, & possibly making future debt crisis more likely. New @goodauth.bsky.social post on fallout from OBBB

πŸ“š Missouri voters are on board with public high schools discussing sexual orientation, according to our Aug 2023 SLU/YouGov Poll.

Support drops, though, when it comes to middle and elementary schools.

In February 2024, 48% of likely Missouri voters told the SLU/YouGov Poll they favored the judge making death penalty decisions when the jury could not come to a decision. 35% opposed.

Thanks. It will be interesting, as tax increases by the state government in Missouri often require voter approval, via the Hancock amendment. Medicaid expansion was also approved via a constitutional amendment. So it will be battling amendments.

Forgive my stupidity, but what do the constraints on raising state funds mean for states (like MO) where the expansion was done by Constitutional amendment than statute. My understanding is the MO state government is still on the hook for the Medicaid expansion even without federal funds.

🏟️ State stadium funding? What do Missouri voters think (SLU/YouGov Poll Aug. 2024):

πŸ”Έ 50% say team owners should cover at least 75% of stadium costs

πŸ“‰Only 36% think the state should pay even 25%
& fewer than 1 in 10 believe the state should pay 50% or more.

When it comes to BBQ, Missouri voters aren’t shy about their pick: Kansas City style beats St. Louis style by more than 2 to 1, according to the SLU/YouGov Poll.

There are two weeks left in the UFL. Battlehawks now host the conference and league championships. They get conference because of stadium availability. They got league because of our attendance.

So last two weeks of the league are pretty meaningless.
