I think we love orchids especially dearly because, like a face, they are “bilaterally symmetric” and I believe we see ourselves and our ancestors when we look at them. And as ancient and widespread as they are, we all probably have an ancestor who loved/loves orchids.

They can last up to 10 weeks under the right conditions. The right amount of light, water, humidity and a 5-10 degree temperature drop at night. Orchids are ancient, existing for about 100 million years and on every continent besides Antarctica.

You can see I let the stem grow out horizontally.
I started with 3 oz every Thursday and we’re up to 4 oz now but I’ll go down to 3.5 for the winter months once it’s done blooming.
I’m hoping these flowers last at least 4 weeks. Maybe 5-6.
