I know we are deep into dumb-is-smart-as-political-praxis now, but I do think it's good for people to be able to read and write at a basic level, especially when doing things like announcing deaths of Americans in war
Maybe this is just me, but I kind of think massive military operations, in which we're demanding unconditional surrender as the outcome, probably should be authorized by Congress.
In the 1960s, you would have seen Republicans at the memorial service of a major civil rights leader. Jackie Robinson was a Republican. Nelson Rockefeller helped pay for Dr. King's funeral. The absence of Republicans at Rev. Jackson's memorial service speaks volumes about today's Republican Party.
So you don't heave a missile into an elementary school, then fire a second missile into the school to finish off the survivors is why a professional military engages in dumb, politically correct rules of engagement. But no, American exceptionalism > 175 schoolgirls.
I just keep coming back to this and how in a normal world this would be the end of any career who had anything to do with it.
Exciting news for infectious disease enthusiasts: measles is back in Colorado after years of vaccine hesitancy and misinformation. @spencersoicher.bsky.social reports for @nexton9news.bsky.social:
Super shocking. Given that Russia helped our enemies during Vietnam, Korea, and both gulf wars, who could have guessed this would happen. www.cnn.com/2026/03/06/p...

Trump gets angry at Fox News' Peter Doocy for asking about Russia helping Iran to kill Americans during his roundtable on college sports.
Trump: "What a stupid question that is to be asking at this time. We're talking about something else."
Priorities for the US Commander in Chief.
This is one of the most jaw dropping moments of Trump’s presidency. Up there with brainstorming about injecting bleach and shining light up orifices to cure COVID.
DHS nominee Markwayne Mullin is one of the most active stock-traders in the Senate — and violated the STOCK Act against insider trading as recently as last August.
He currently holds stock in L3Harris, which has millions in contracts with ICE and FEMA.
The grift continues.
Outrageous‼️ Trump does not care about anyone Except himself‼️

Just announced: Iceland has urgently moved up its referendum to join the European Union - to 29 August.
A reminder: 🇮🇸 is in many ways already a non-voting 🇪🇺 member because of the EEA. This would give them voting power to shape the laws they have to follow.
SCOOP — Body camera footage obtained as a result of my lawsuit against the DC Metropolitan PD confirms DOGE and the Trump administration openly admitted they were entering private property when they raided the building on March 17, 2025. That didn't stop MPD from breaking down the doors.
My report:
I planned to share my report on the body cam footage early next week when I learned that a DC news station had obtained some of the footage as a result of my lawsuit and they were going to scoop me. After working on this for a year, I couldn't let that happen. Published 2 mins before they aired :)
We desperately need to grow independent media as fast as we can. You can start by signing up for Democracy Docket. I started it 6 years ago to be unapologetic pro-democracy. No corporate backers. It will never bow down or obey.
Sign up now to help it meet this moment. bit.ly/4qmEiFz
"Discomfort serves as a moral and strategic guardrail. Leaders who feel the weight of ordering teenagers toward hardship, injury, and death are more likely to ask the necessary hard questions."
Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"
Not that logic matters, but "unconditional surrender" inherently means the very same "nation-building" the Trump admin bemoaned just this week. It means you take control of the nation.
But whatever, we'll just have some new objective for the war tomorrow.
An excerpt from Jesse Jackson’s powerful speech to the Democratic National Convention on July 19, 1988.
May he rest in peace.
it’s not like we couldn’t have seen this coming (more than a year ago)…

There have been some very bad developments today.
Reverend Jesse Jackson called on each of us to be heralds of change, to be messengers of hope; to step forward and say “Send me” wherever we have a chance to make an impact.
How fortunate we were that Jesse Jackson answered that call. What a great debt we owe to him.
Rep. Nancy Mace: "I believe Pam Bondi has been less than truthful with the American people and Congress on the Epstein files. I want to know where the files are that were on her desk, because they're not in the hands of Congress ... I want to know why this is continuing to be covered up."
Massie on Newsmax: "We're not getting the answers we need from Pam Bondi. I just spent 3 hours at the DOJ this week looking at the unredacted files. And I'm finding evidence of files they haven't released yet." (Note that the Newsmax anchor agrees with him!)
