Always good to start the year with a Jack Snipe (one of 70 species recorded at @tophilllow.bsky.social today)
I’ll see your mine pie and raise you a glass of Sherry

Light Knot Grass from the garden trap back in June. Didn’t realise it at the time but it’s the first record for our area. #teammoth #moths

While looking for raptors this morning, I came across this adult Swainson's hawk. I asked him why he wasn't in Argentina and he said that Argentina is too cold, bordering on Chile. #birds
Lovely to stumble across this resting Little Auk by Scarborough Harbour earlier today with @grahamscott14.bsky.social. It spent a while sheltering from the northernly winds at mouth of the Harbour, before flying strongly north into a heavy squall. A Great Northern Diver also fed nearby.
It's publication day! My Poyser book on Marsh Tits & Willow Tits is now available.
Huge thanks to publishers @chiffchat.bsky.social who have been fantastic. #NatureWriting #Ornithology #ukbirding #ForestEcology #nature
I love Tibet-Butler preserve
