a line graph showing my Lichess rapid chess rating over time. The rating starts flat around 1520, then gradually increases to about 1560. After a short plateau, it spikes near 1595, drops sharply to about 1540, then climbs again toward 1560 by the end.

I was REALLY rooting for Gukesh there in the last round. He almost had it!!!!

IIRC they're running it twice, India hosts and gets white for round 2

If you get to a draw, you start another game on a shorter time control - rapid becomes blitz becomes bullet. Levy made a draw by repetition with Sagar for content so they could play more chess LOL. Right now it's Hikaru and Gukesh in bullet after two draws

oh itโ€™s such an esports-ass chess match. Live heart rate trackers on the players, showmanship, no draws allowed, screaming crowd. Great fun

I was never much into sports as a youth (shocking, I know) but I've had a ton of fun following chess as a (kind of) sport with characters and a narrative. Jon Bois' videos really got me into understanding the fun and the appeal and I totally get it now. I like having people to root for, and villains

In my uneducated opinion, I think scoring the first GM norm is going to be the hardest for Levy (not that it would apply to this tournament, of course - it's just for fun/content). Just because of the pressure, the visibility, the psychological aspect. I think if he can get one, he can get three.

05.10.2025 02:21 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 17    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Levy and Gukesh are also two players who I think are incredibly skilled (obv. Gukesh in particular) but are under immense pressure & have been struggling with confidence. I really want to see them both succeed. It's been so sad to watch them get too psyched out to play at a level they're capable of

People who follow me know I've been following Divya Deshmukh's career excitedly because I love her "storyline", but I'm also excited Carissa Yip is playing in this tournament because she's exactly how I would want to play if I was good. I like how *fun* her chess always is

also FABIIIIII

Watching the USA vs India chess tournament. LOVE the variant rule this tournament has going on that you have to play to checkmate. Just makes it fun entertainment IMO

Great is the best move AND a move that's critical - like, the only good move in a position or something. Excellent, I believe is very good but not the best

I kept checking them back and forth LMAO. Apparently there was actually a mate after the king was forced into the corner, but I didn't see it. I was like 7 points up anyway

This person was rated 1666, making them officially the highest rated opponent I've beaten in a rated game. I think they saw my rating (currently 1562 OUCHHH) and thought it would be an ez win so played a trash opening and sacrificed a piece to win fast. Not so!!!!

good resources are Genki 1 and 2 for beginners, Quartet for the next level, then Tobira. I like japanesepod101. I neglected kanji for a really long time and the app Renshuu was amazing at getting me up to speed!

On and off since I was 17! so ten years total but with varying levels of dedication. Iโ€™ve done some self study, two classes in university, and a lot of work with a tutor. I also did a brief intensive study in Japan!!!
