A really approachable Great White Egret at Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria this afternoon..
“AI, could you remove the foliage so I can see the bird better?”
“Ah, perfect, thanks!” 🦉
Just till the weekend….
Four of the six Bewick’s Swans leaving the overnight roost at Deeping Lakes LWT, Lincolnshire this morning (06/01/26). A lovely winter sight. 🦢❄️

Among Britain’s industrial relics, few plants are as evocative as Spring Sandwort (Sabulina verna). This tiny, starry wildflower marks old mine spoil, telling a story of metal, geology & human endeavour. 📸 NE Cumbria, Nov 2025 #wildflowerhour

Sadly, this Barrow bird didn’t follow the Green Cross Code… @cumbriabirdclub.bsky.social
Some Bird Magic — the Rutland Baird’s Sandpiper pulls a classic disappearing act… straight up the barrel of a camera lens! Maybe a bit of overkill on the size of lens required! 🎩🔫📸 #ukbirding #BirdingUK #RareBirdUK

Bold blues and brash calls.... the Steller’s Jay never blends into the background. A true forest trickster, curious, noisy, and impossible to ignore. 🌲💙 #Birds #StellersJay
Forest gamebirds with very different styles 🌲🪶 The Ruffed Grouse drums on logs with rapid wingbeats, a heartbeat of the woods. The Sooty Grouse booms deep calls through mountain forests, echoing like distant drums. #Birds #CanadianBirds #Birding
Master of the skies 🦅 The Osprey dives with pinpoint precision, snatching its prey straight from the water. A true symbol of wild rivers and coasts. #BirdsOfPrey #Osprey #WildlifePhotography #CanadianBirds #Birds
Tiny, bold, and with a voice like a toy horn 🚗🎺 the Red-breasted Nuthatch is a master climber, walking headfirst down tree trunks in search of insects & seeds. A splash of rusty-orange chest + a bold eye stripe make it unmistakable! #birds #birdingcanada #CanadianBirds
Between tarmac & pasture, a wall-top blooms with Bird’s-foot Trefoil, Harebell, ferns and fine grasses. A narrow ribbon of biodiversity squeezed between two low-diversity landscapes. #WildflowerHour #Biodiversity #Cumbria forktail.co.uk/2025/08/27/a...

Yellow-wort (Blackstonia perfoliata) in Cumbria - brightens dry grasslands & coastal slopes with its striking starry yellow flowers. A late-summer gem, often closing by afternoon sun 🌼💛 #wildflowerhour
The name Restharrow reflects the plant’s agricultural nuisance in former times, its stubborn roots being almost impossible to remove from arable land.
🌸 Common Restharrow – a creeping perennial of dry, sandy soils. Once notorious for stopping farmers’ harrows, now admired for its stunning pink pea-flowers. In Cumbria it’s abundant on coastal dunes, frequent in the Eden Valley, but scarce elsewhere. #Wildflower #Cumbria #Wildflowerhour
