We're not done yet | 18F

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

The Feb. 28 economic black-out/buy-nothing day—it's a Friday. Friday is payday for a lot of people. Participate if you can, shop small/local if you must, but remember that a lot of folks don't earn a living wage and don't have the luxury of waiting an extra day to buy food and groceries. Be kind.

BOTW felt so much more complete and solid. More fun to explore. Adding the underground was cool, but it ended up making the world feel less substantial, like the good bits were stretched too thin across a landscape too vast.

Just got my official termination notice. I will be unemployed, thanks to DOGE, at the end of the week.

Things are going to be tough.

But!

I've got books available (and more to come). Also, I'd like to help on any of YOUR creative projects.

Need a writer? Editor? Sounding board? I'm your guy.

Jair Bolsonaro charged over alleged far-right coup plot to seize power in Brazil Former president is charged by attorney general following police report that accused him of organising a conspiracy to stop Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva taking power.

Oh, look what normal countries do when a former president leads a far right coup attempt.

NO ABRAS TU PUERTA.
ICE no puede entrar a tu casa sin una orden firmada por un juez. Diles a los agentes que te muestren la orden deslizándola debajo de la puerta.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too.

EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them.

We have been careful to avoid using the word coup, but it’s time to call it what it is—this is a coup. Trump signed an executive order granting only the attorney general or the president the authority to interpret laws executed by the executive branch.

Sitting at the repair shop while my car is being worked on, watching an episode of little house on the prairie. A racist old farmer screws the town and sells his crop cheap, gets called out. Some follow up leads to violence and his arrest. 🧵 1

His justification for selling them out?

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last.

Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens.

Don’t think it won’t happen again when they come for the “undocumented.”

Goodreads is owned by Amazon & there is an AMAZING alternative‼️

The StoryGraph is a black women-owned competitor to GoodReads with better UI in my opinion.
When you sign up you can even transfer your data from Goodreads to StoryGraph!
