I always approached my Halo missions asking what’s something I could do that players years later would be able to shorthand remember by saying, that was the one with 4 Mantis’s fighting off banshees on Valhalla or the one where gravity pulses flung you around as you raced to escape a doomed world.

But each member of blue team were deployed on a mission objective that matched their skill set. You’d help them complete their objectives, in some cases with a little friendly competition so they could all walk away with a mission complete instead of just going AWOL and leaving people at risk.

With co-op being such a focus, having a level that didn’t really fit that mandate doomed it from the start.

I have a paper design in Halo 5 for a level that was HEAVILY inspired by that mission. A shame I never had to the opportunity to make it. It involved Master Chief personally recruiting the members of Blue Team who were deployed in the field.

Great advice, and something I needed to hear right now.

The games business is about games. If you’re in the games business, and somehow (as often happens) your company somehow is now focused on something else (AI, XR, “IP,” acquisitions, etc.) you’re in for a period of struggle. Everyone will wonder what’s wrong. But you know. It’s about games. Gameplay.
