This is part of the tragedy of a surrender now. It invites more pain and suffering by emboldening the regime. Why should they listen to a weak opposition?

I feel this, I grew up on football (near Green Bay so obviously). I had to fall in love with a team to really get into baseball. But the tension during a close, meaningful baseball game is exquisite. The best kind of slow burn imo.

I went to Maders for the first time the last time I was in town, that place is a TRIP! My partner and I split the German sampler and it was still more than we could eat - I’d recommend going that route if you go with someone.

The 3rd Street Market Hall and the Milwaukee Public Market are both fun places to check out with lots of decent food options. If you go to the market, stop at West Allis Cheese and Sausage Shop and get the Milwaukeean Bloody Mary, it’s delightful, a boozy Wisco charcuterie board in a cup

Hero’s of the day - In a small town of Beckley, WV, Kendra Sullivan staged a one-woman No Kings protest. She was confronted, had the police called on her, but stood her ground. She was physically threatened. Police came more than once and protected her right to protest. This is how we do it.

We had nearly 1k in Menomonie, WI (population 16k)! Marched all through downtown led by a brass band second line style. It was amazing.

Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance.

Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn.

We have been sent here to fight for people.

I can’t believe it’s even necessary to say that NO city in ANY country deserves or should be INVADED by its federal government.

I thought we cared about people. Isn’t that the real point? Everyone needs liberation, most of all the people who don’t know.

When I see people online, even in jest, suggest that people living in Republican-controlled states should be abandoned because of their politicians, I feel a deep heartache. New York CREATED Donald Trump and none of y’all are ever talk about it the way you disparage Alabama or Mississippi.

The COVID-19 pandemic undermined the right in several key ways:

1) It showed us which workers are essential and empowered them.

2) It showed that the markets can’t solve everything.

2) It threatened GOP political prospects in a critical election.

4) Government relief proved popular and effective

He is understated about it but Murphy says some extraordinary things here. It's worth watching all of this. Remember when they won big games nobody would drink until Uecker was there. It was a matter of honor.

Inspired by Pope Leo, Detroit Archbishop Leads Pro-Immigrant Rally Outside of ICE β€œImmigrants and migrants are a suffering people. Our goal today is to give a voice to those who have no voice,” Weisenburger told reporters.

Inspired by Pope Leo and moved to defy the Trump immigration crackdown, Detroit’s Archbishop Edward Weisenburger led a procession of 250 clergy and lay faithful to the ICE regional field office.

β€œThe vast majority of undocumented immigrants are forced into their situation," Weisenburger said.

If you grew up in a household with an evangelical right-wing parent, as I did, you already know that the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education, like the reversal of Roe v. Wade, is the culmination of a 50-year project.

Our task isn't to be cruel, or to make people suffer. Our task is to fucking build a movement that can take power so that suffering may be reduced.

And being cruel behind a keyboard doesn't help to build that movement.

The thing about taking pleasure (or grim satisfaction) or whatever in bad people and their kids drowning in a flood is that it's bad for your soul.

It makes the world uglier without making the world better.

These women should all still be alive. Their deaths were not
only preventable, they were foretold by the stories of other women from a
century ago. One of those stories involved my own great-grandmother,
Julia Cowan, who met the same fate in 1929. Living in Boston, Julia, a
White woman, became pregnant with what would have been her fourth
child. Desiring to end the pregnancy but having no access to the medical
care necessary for an abortion, she took matters into her own hands and
ultimately bled to death in a Boston hospital. Like so many others, she
died because society did not recognize her as someone with the β€œdignity
and authority to make these choices.”

An absolutely remarkable concurrence by Chief Justice Karofsky in the WI Supreme Court case that held the state's total abortion ban is not in effect.

CJ Karofsky recounts the stories of women, including her great-grandmother, who died bc of abortion restrictions. www.wicourts.gov/sc/opinion/D...

What to know about Hannah Dugan, the Milwaukee judge at center of ICE arrest investigation Dugan spent a large swath of her career working for the poor, first with legal aid organizations and then as executive director of Catholic Charities.

Dugan, the judge recently arrested by the FBI on allegations of helping an undocumented immigrant avoid ICE arrest, is also a former executive director of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. www.jsonline.com/story/news/c...

the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless
