View of Automated decision-making as domination
| First Monday
relevant paper:
> I argue that a definition of injustice not as allocative unfairness but as domination, drawing primarily from the argument of philosopher Iris Marion Young, would better explain observations of algorithmic harm that are widely acknowledged in this research community.

Basically, yes.
There's a huge difference between a model seeing a codebase in its training data and a model "internalizing" all of its nuances or even memorizing that code. Unless a model was post-trained on low-level QA about python 3.14 implementation, I imagine RAG would be helpful.

Maybe you could index the CPython and asyncio codebases with an LLM and poke around under the hood?

Or how about journalists stop repeating his lies and giving him the benefit of the doubt instead of talking about how his objectives are clearly to promote racism and replace democracy with authoritarianism?
Quit hedging and just say it. The republicans are *actively* killing American Democracy.

There is a very real possibility that chatting with LLMs will replace search as the dominant UX paradigm for information retrieval. If that happens, it is critical that people continue to be able to find information about current events, i.e. these partnerships will be important.

I think this article is conflating two issues which it is important to acknowledge are orthogonal:
* forcing journalists to use AI - LLMs replacing labor/quality
* whether or not journalistic publishers should partner with LLM inference providers - LLMs replacing *search*

It's hard to wrap your head around the insanity of recent federal personnel policy until you sit down and come to grips with the reality that the republicans are actively working to undermine American Democracy and have been advancing this agenda for over a decade.

If only there were some sort independent OIG whose job it was to make sure agencies like this did their work in a sane way.
Oh right, we had those already and trump/musk deleted those organizations for no reason and with no congressional pushback.

I agree, the twitter ML community was a great source of signal and I miss it. I find most of the important stuff bounces around here though. Don't let the FOMO drag you. Even if you're a few weeks/months lagged: the bsky community will make sure you hear the news way sooner than the normies.
