Hey, it’s the mako shark specimen at the American Museum of Natural History that inspired you-know-what! No it wasn’t a great white, it was a mako caught in New Zealand in 1939.

We Can Now Track Individual Monarch Butterflies. It’s a Revelation. Scientists used tiny new sensors to follow the insects on journeys that take thousands of miles to their winter colonies in Mexico.

For the first time, scientists are tracking the migration of monarch butterflies across much of North America, actively monitoring individual insects on journeys. It could provide crucial insights into the life cycles of hundreds of flying insects at a time when many are in steep decline.

Love the video. Love SEJ. Support the bylaws changes (with some reservations). But I wish the official SEJ twitter feed had not been used to urge a yes vote, especially in such a non-substantive way. A better message would have been: 1) here's where to educate yourself on the proposal, 2) vote!

Went to a science journalism talk from @danfagin.bsky.social, who shared this mind-blowing idea: people are not irrational for ignoring scientific evidence, they're being TOO rational. They recognize that the social cost of going against their "tribe" is just not worth what they gain from the truth.

Urge Dartmouth College to fight federal government attacks on higher education Can you spare a minute to help this campaign?

I signed. Beilock's stance is both wrong and witless. If your policy of "institutional restraint" doesn't exempt the greatest threat to higher education in memory, then your policy is actually institutional silence. And if you give in to the bully once, then he'll take your lunch money every day.
