NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

This picture was taken last week in a town called Nass here in Ireland. It shows an atmospheric scene of a lake surrounded by dense trees and vegetation. Our shot has deep golden and amber tones, with an autumnal, almost dreamlike quality. The water reflects the sky above, where thick, dark storm clouds loom heavily, though a few breaks in the clouds reveal bright patches of sunlight. The reflections makes the water appear glowing and metallic, with ripples spreading across its surface. A group of ducks are gliding through the lake, leaving gentle trails behind them. On the banks, tangled plants and grasses frame the water, while tall, weeping willow trees hang low over the lake, their branches cascading like curtains. The golden coloring of the leaves and vegetation makes the scene feel otherworldly, as if it exists in a timeless autumn twilight. The mood of the picture is both peaceful and slightly eerie, a mixture of calm nature with an undercurrent of stormy tension in the sky above.
