Some of these offices issue forecasts for major population centers such as New York City, Houston and Cleveland. Several are prone to hurricanes and tornadoes.

A Meteorologist-in-Charge (MIC) acts as the experienced captain guiding NWS teams. They also connect to local news media and the emergency management community.

Floyd County's Blackiston Mill Bridge closed until further notice
The Blackiston Mill Bridge was closed Sunday evening after an apparent partial failure of the Blackiston Mill Dam upstream.
A project aiming to replace this bridge would rely on around $5 million dollars of federal funding, county commissioner Al Knable told us just a few weeks ago.
