25. Anti-trope
My hope is to drop the chosen one trope on its head. We’ll see how I do. It’s a very long arc that can’t be resolved in the current WIP.

- "perfect parents who's word is always right" trope.
But I didn't do it just to avoid, I did it to show complex but very heartfelt family bonds.
Imo, the story ignores tropes, (with the exception of the dragon bond)
It's a story about individual struggles, not about saving or changing the world.

Anti-tropes: what are some tropes that you've purposefully avoided in your WIP? OR, are there any tropes that you've put a twist on?

#Novmemeber Not in my WIP, but I put a twist to blood magic in my villain redemption story.

It's kind of a spoiler, but I put the power in the hands of the victim.

In Lawcket's WIP, one could say I purposefully avoided the common tropes of bad (or dead) parents, *without* using the - 1/?

He'd never enter a city for the joy of it, that's for sure.😅
That said, he's been confined in prisons, & has chosen to live disguised as a servant, literally in a palace, for his goals.

Nothing gets in the ways of his serving those he loves.

He's so much like me in this way . . . makes him very natural for me to write.

I love the moodboard!✨

- mentioned many times before that he feels most at peace alone with nature.

- almost any story he's present in. He *can't* make everything he needs from scratch, in any climate, but he's lived years in the wilderness, gathering, hunting, & cooking, his own food. He can even make pretty good leather, & tends to be remarkably good at finding natural shelter.

#AwesomeCharacters I realized I failed to answer about survival skills for Lawcket. I'll just say they're about like mine, mostly lacking, but he's been outdoors enough to have good senses to go off.

Now to Rider:
Both Rider's survival skills, & his respect for nature, are very important to- 1/?

This one’s pretty easy for me ! 🌳
Most of the characters are Sheltri who live in tree dwellings, hunt and fish, and have an inextricable relationship with nature that extends to good survival skills even outside their Forest home!
The main non-Sheltri side characters are the🧵

- while watching over his cooking, but he often finds indoors stuffy. It might not help that the whole family shares a tiny house.

I think I'd struggle to write a character who doesn't appreciate nature.

Lawcket generally enjoys being outdoors, even when maybe he shouldn't . . . 🌧⛈️
He's good at gardening,🌱 & taking care of animals.🐐🐣
He can appreciate a cozy morning knitting,- 1/2

How does your character feel about nature?

Or do they prefer the comforts and amenities of a city?

Yes, he would certainly fall again.❤️ He still loves her, & there are many more glimpses in the story of how he cares for animals.

I thought of the little goat too!🥰🥹 I opened the story with that scene for a reason. It shows so much about how easily Lawcket falls in love, & about the connections animals & humans can have with each other.
I'm very honored that left an impression.🥰

I don't have any special powers I know of, but most of my closest friends have been animals. No animal is "just an old horse" to me.

Lawcket loves the corrupt dragons, who hate him, if that counts.😭
Most other characters don't really know about them. They're not properly part of the same time & space most of the story takes place in.

The question also made me think of this snippet.

Rider loves magic, & even nature, in a way no one around him does.
He'd die before he'd abuse his power, & he'd die to free magic from the slavery his race imposes on it.

I might want to consider going for 1 book, (well 2 if I ever get the rest written)
Over 100k feels long to me, but I don't have a good breaking place until about 150k

Thinking about how to actually break up the series is gonna be a challenge of its own.

Is 180k small?

It's not the longest I've written in a series, but it's the longest I've considered seriously editing. I won't say I've succeeded yet, & my editing might not be what most people call editing, but it still takes longer than writing, & that's coming from a slooow writer.

I'm flattered.❤️💜 I promise I'll share it when/if I can. I'll probably make the ebook free when I first release. Of course it will be more than 1 book, & I might publish before they're all ready.

If it's says anything, I've got over 180k words drafted, & I'm editing more than writing these days.😊

We'll see if I ever write it.

Of course it's okay to ask. I am curious why? but also shouldn't be on here because I'm gonna start flowing out typos.😴💤

- I've published before with very few beta readers, but I'm gonna *need* readers to look over this story before I dare publish it, & not just any readers. It's not remotely a conventional story, so a lot of readers won't even enjoy it.

- I've made promises to, & some of them were from twitter turned x😭 Sorry, I suck at that kind of thing, (it's a wonder I was trying) & with computer changes . . .

I also make promises too easily.😅 Anyone I interact with much can usually get promises out of me I might not be able to keep.

Nothing special. I don't remember all the instances of how it went down, . . . I shared a snippet, or answered a writing prompt, & someone asked if the book was available, & I told them I'd let them know when it is.
I'm afraid I lost the document I was using to keep track of everyone-

It depends if I find the energy to get back into writing 4 stories at a time.😓
At the moment I'm just hoping I can someday get Lawcket's story to a few of the readers I've promised it to.
