They are very powerful mind readers, so powerful his own talent seems nerfed.
It's very hard to hide from them.

“I'm not afraid to fear pain.”

A quote from an almost 1200 hundred word sneak peek I wrote of Ilivan's POV.

I'm tempted to post the whole snippet, but it could be considered quite dark.

For Lawcket, his desperation to love, & even be happy, no matter circumstances.

For Rider, his determined belief in freewill & his dangerously selfless love.

Still, you can never trust you're alone. Better to always be careful, that's Rider's way of life.
It might make him even more careful that dragons from Skybollon have captured him twice.

In the wilderness, it's mostly a habit, & that he likes to be careful (except for hunting, then it's necessary) Otherwise, there's not much to avoid notice from, in the wilderness, except magical beings. & physical quietness isn't gonna keep him from being noticed by them, though his being very -

He generally has soft footsteps, & doesn't tend to use load voice gestures.
He's the kind of person who might sneak up on you without meaning to.

Rider is quiet, his footsteps soft, his voice low. He is very careful to make sure his clothing, & anything he carries in them, don't make noise.

Lawcket is also pretty quiet, but he's less aware of it, & he's sometimes pretty talkative. When he does carry coins, - 1/2

I'd give this a try, but I don't know how to tell the difference between a side character, & a secondary character.

Event Horizon, First Light, Book 1
25.000 words
New Adult
Sci-fi Adventure, Space Opera
Standalone but Serialized
Inspired by Golden Age sci-fi and 90's Star Trek EVENT HORIZON: THE SYNOPSIS

The year is 2568, and humanity has spread itself thin and wide across the galaxy.
Less than half a century has passed since the Paradigm Shift, the cataclysmic event that caused the collapse of all large-scale galactic governments--and left thousands of worlds to their own devices. In the ashes of these Empires, the unexpected happened: Humanity rebuilt, and it rebuilt better.

It is now 50 years into humanity's Golden Age. A refugee named Yana finds her new, post-scarcity home just as asphyxiating as the ruins of her homeworld. Though all her needs are met, a deep discontentment still brews, despite all attempts to keep it at bay by focusing on her work as an epidemiologist, her pet amoeba, and a quickly crumbling social life.

The situation changes when Yana is accidentally recruited into the Galaxy's foremost peacekeeping organization, and realizes it might hold the answers she seeks.

Now, with her last shot at happiness on the line, she must either prove her worth to her new employers, or lose all her prospects--for good. EVENT HORIZON: THE EXCERPTS

"In the third deck of the Nomadic Exploration Volunteers’ scout ship Radiant, Yana sat in a waiting room and considered all the decisions that had led her to this point.
The old vessel had been quick to work its strange magic on her. From the moment she stepped through the umbilical, a whole new world had welcomed her. A world of history—not the almost desperate remembrances of the Habitat’s Bellerophons and Devapalas and Anansis, not the things that were easy or empowering to remember, but real history, immediate history, written in dents and plasma burns and long sinuous scars in the fuselage. It reminded Yana of something she hadn’t seen in a long time—something she’d escaped, but had come to find herself missing, as if some part of her had craved the simplicity of hardship."

"She was standing on a flat platform lined with street lights, floating, island-like, in the darkness; next to her were Rook, and Six, and no-one else. A pipe hung from the unseen ceiling and gently touched down, the now inert transport pod cradled by its curvature. All else was amorphous, suggested though air vibrations and distant, echoing screeches.
Storage, the voice had said. Yana knew what the word truly meant. Every station, sooner or later, developed such places. They were the bowels of their artificial worlds, the layers between Layers, the unlit hollows where the extraneous and the unclaimed gathered out of sight and mind." EVENT HORIZON: THE CONTENT

Also, if anyone wants a copy of my upcoming book and can't afford it right now, just DM me, honestly. So long as people are reading my stuff, I'm happy, y'know?

If you want to go the extra mile you can review it or post about it, and I'll love you for it, but you really don't have to.

I suspect I shared this one before. Chapter 1 of the fantasy, Helena wants a vantage on the chapel gargoyles that intrigue her.

By the middle of the novel, she has fallen head over heels in love with one of them.

Apparently I bookmarked a handful of posts that now say they've been deleted by the author.

I don't know if it's a glitch, or of they were actually deleted. I just can't track everything.

I can't give you much advice with this, since this seems very different than the weeding I've done, but boy have I spent hours weeding, so I had to put that into Lawcket's story too.😊

Rider's not most people.
Tbh, nor am I.

Of course, you aren't either. No one is, but my point is some of us can get into states where fear of our death, & even suffering, doesn't fully exist.
I don't really know what it comes from. I've always be strange.

He doesn't see himself as poor, not for that at least. If anything, the dream gave him confidence in himself.

It's Song who has this part worse.💔

I imagine most people would in the places he's put in.
This is one place I have to deal with loads more than he does.

Darn, I want to spare him, but I don't know how much I can.😭

- he may face, bond, beaten, & burned alive.

In Named By Love, Song has a mirror of that dream, where he sees Rider in that place. It may be more than a dream.😭

Rider knows the world too closely for there to be much room for imaginations. Yes, I mean that, literally.

That said, he does have 2 very vivid dreams in Bound By Heart, the first being very spiritual.
CW: mention of brutal torture
the 2nd being a very possible death- 1/2

There are also some rather funny & harmless pictures his mind forms when he's a small child, so that most really is only a most.

- know what choice he'd make, & could never live with either.

Still, most of the time his imagination isn't super specific. That is only a *most*. 1 of the scenes I find most tragic involves a very specific picture his mind creates (I'm still considering cutting the image - 2/3

I was going to say Lawcket's being very practical makes him not very imaginative, but was hesitate because I know he imagines his fears to an extent, & then I remembered that snippet I've shared once or twice where he imagines himself in a position he knows he could never- 1/3

I stare up at that one bright star, as I dare not wonder why
Why this world is filled with suffering
The fiercest love can't keep away

That bright spot blurs to streaks
Shining on the moisture in my eyes

Young or old
Joyful or grieving
The same stars gaze down on us
