Note the goal isn’t to make sure your bids are always lower than the market. The opposite is often true. As tiers thin out, this helps realize when it’s time to go the extra dollar on resources becoming more scarce—before market demand turns the extra dollar into an extra fistful (e.g. Josh Jacobs).

This is most useful in the first half/two-thirds of an auction. Early, it helps see how the market gets set on positions/tiers. Middle, it shows you when players are being over/under-bid against that market. Less valuable later, when prices more closely follow max bids and positional needs.

Something simple I find useful in auctions is to keep a column in my rankings sheet to record actual in-draft prices. Provides insight to how the micro market of your league values similarly-tiered players, helps to identify bargains and adjust off pre-draft values.

Here’s what happens when it’s still baseball season and you have to learn the football player pool on the fly through your #SFB15 draft. Result feels pretty balanced, but I’m not sure that matters in this all-flex format. 🤷‍♂️

People want analysis of the most efficient markets. 15-team Roto doesn’t apply to how most folks play, but it rewards 5x5 categorical balance so much that the valuations still apply to other formats. It’s a North Star to help navigate those. Best Ball behaves similarly for football.
