It's shocking to me that he (they?) lost a job over what he (they?) said. It was absolutely innocuous and as simple statement of fact. I work in higher ed and it terrifies me.

In 2009, President Obama went to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina to speak to troops. He talked about policy. I shudder to think of the media reaction if he had ventured into political talk like this. I hope this will be treated appropriately.
